Police Seek 7-Day Remand for OC Rakibul

Police have sought a seven-day remand for former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, Md. Rakibul Hasan, in a sedition case.

The hearing on the remand petition will be held on Thursday (September 24) at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam.

Earlier, police arrested him in connection with the sedition case. Multiple court sources confirmed to Jugantor that he has been charged under Section 24(c) of the relevant law.

Prior to his arrest, Rakibul was taken into DB custody over an audio recording that had circulated on social media. In the audio, comments concerning the government, police and various security forces could reportedly be heard.

Rakibul had claimed that the audio was not his and that it had been created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Following his arrest in the sedition case, it was not immediately clear at the time of reporting whether police would produce him before the court and seek remand.
