Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attends opening of 81st UNGA session

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the opening ceremony of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The session began on Tuesday morning local time at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Other senior members of the Bangladesh delegation were present alongside the prime minister at the opening ceremony. Heads of state and government and their representatives from various countries also attended the event.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, accompanied by his wife, attended a traditional welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in honour of world leaders at the UN Headquarters.

The breakfast was held at 7:30am local time at the UN Headquarters. The UN secretary-general hosted the event in honour of world leaders and their spouses who arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly session.

At the beginning of the breakfast, the world leaders took turns going up to the stage with their spouses and joined a photo session with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his wife.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also went up to the stage with his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, for the photo session. He exchanged greetings with Antonio Guterres and his wife and took part in the photo session.

After the breakfast, the prime minister joined the opening session of the 81st UNGA at the General Assembly Hall at 9am. Heads of state and government from various countries were present at the session.

According to his tour schedule, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the United Nations General Assembly on September 24. It will be his first address to the UN as Bangladesh’s head of government. As per tradition, he will deliver his speech in Bangla.

Alongside the UN General Assembly session, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold bilateral meetings and courtesy meetings with the heads of government of several countries and heads of international organisations
