PM Tarique Rahman arrives in New York to attend 81st UNGA

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He and his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, attended a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The breakfast marked the beginning of the Bangladesh prime minister’s official and busy schedule of engagements at the United Nations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hosted the breakfast at 7:30am local time on Tuesday at the North Delegates Lounge of the UN Headquarters in honour of world leaders and their spouses.

At the beginning of the breakfast, world leaders took turns going up to the stage with their spouses and joined a photo session with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his wife.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also went up to the stage with his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and took part in the photo session. He exchanged greetings with Antonio Guterres and his wife and joined the photo session.

After the breakfast, the prime minister attended the opening session of the 81st UNGA at the General Assembly Hall of the UN Headquarters at 9am. Heads of state and government from various countries were present at the session.

According to the tour schedule, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will address the United Nations General Assembly on September 24. It will be his first address to the UN as Bangladesh’s head of government, and he will deliver the speech in Bangla, in keeping with tradition.

Alongside the UNGA session, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold bilateral meetings and high-level courtesy meetings with the heads of government of several countries and heads of international organisations.
