Proposed Bus Fare Increase in Bangladesh

News Desk: Following the government's decision to increase the price of diesel by Tk 20 per liter, a proposal has been made to increase bus fares by 20 paisa per kilometer.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Monday (September 21) at its Banani headquarters, with representatives of bus owners, transport workers, and other stakeholders in attendance.

The Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association submitted the proposal, arguing that the fare increase should match the rise in fuel costs.

After the meeting, the association’s General Secretary, A.S.M. Ahmed Khokon, said that the proposal had been finalized and an official government gazette approving the new fares could be issued within the next couple of days.

Current status: These are proposed fares only. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges will make the final decision, and the new fares will take effect only after an official notification is issued.
