US-Bangla Airlines to Add 21 Boeing Aircraft, Opening a New Chapter in Bangladesh’s Aviation Industry

Staff Correspondent: US-Bangla Airlines, the country’s largest private aviation fleet operator, has announced a major expansion plan with the addition of 21 brand-new Boeing aircraft, marking a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

The announcement was made at a special event titled “Beyond with Boeing: Powering the Next Chapter of Aviation” held at Sheraton Dhaka, Banani. The ceremony brought together senior government officials, aviation industry leaders, Boeing representatives, and diplomatic dignitaries to celebrate the new chapter in Bangladesh’s aviation development.

The event was attended by Honorable  State Minister Mr. Rashiduzzaman Millat, Adviser to the Prime Minister Mr. Humayun Kabir, United States Ambassador to Bangladesh H.E. Brent T. Christensen, and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, among others.

Presided over by US-Bangla Airlines Managing Director Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mamun, the ceremony highlighted the airline’s vision to expand its network, improve passenger connectivity, and contribute to the growth of Bangladesh’s aviation industry.

Boeing Partnership to Strengthen Bangladesh’s Global Connectivity

Addressing the gathering, US Ambassador to Bangladesh H.E. Brent T. Christensen described the agreement between US-Bangla Airlines and Boeing as a landmark development for both the aviation sector and the broader economic relationship between Bangladesh and the United States.

“This represents much more than an expansion of an airline’s fleet. It is an investment in Bangladesh’s future,” the ambassador said.

He noted that the new Boeing aircraft would support economic growth, strengthen regional and international connectivity, boost tourism, facilitate trade, and create high-quality employment opportunities.

Highlighting Boeing’s role as one of America’s leading aerospace manufacturers, Ambassador Christensen said the partnership reflects the strength of commercial ties between the two countries.

“Bangladesh’s best business case is Boeing,” he said, adding that the partnership would continue to build stronger links between Bangladesh and the United States.

The ambassador also praised US-Bangla Airlines’ initiative to send around 200 Bangladeshi pilots to the United States for advanced training, calling it an investment in the future generation of aviation professionals.

“These pilots will return with world-class skills, strengthen Bangladesh’s aviation sector, and create lasting professional connections between our two countries,” he said.

Bangladesh’s Vision to Become an Aviation Hub

Adviser to the Prime Minister Mr. Humayun Kabir said the milestone represents not only the success of US-Bangla Airlines but also the growing partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.

Recalling the airline’s journey, he said US-Bangla Airlines started operations in 2014 with only two domestic destinations and has now developed into a major private carrier operating domestic and international routes.

“The order of 21 Boeing aircraft itself tells the story of the success of US-Bangla Airlines,” he said.

Mr. Kabir emphasized that Bangladesh has significant potential to become a regional aviation hub connecting the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Western markets.

He highlighted the importance of expanding airport infrastructure, particularly the development of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Terminal 3, to meet growing passenger demand and enhance Bangladesh’s position in global aviation.

However, he acknowledged that private aviation operators face challenges, including rising fuel prices, increased operational costs, and the need for a supportive policy environment.

“The government aims to facilitate private sector businesses, including aviation, and create opportunities for investment and employment,” he said.

Driving Aviation Growth and Economic Opportunities

The expansion of US-Bangla Airlines’ Boeing fleet is expected to significantly increase the airline’s operational capacity and strengthen Bangladesh’s international air connectivity.

The initiative will also contribute to job creation, aviation skills development, tourism growth, and stronger economic cooperation between Bangladesh and global partners.

Industry leaders believe the move will help accelerate the transformation of Bangladesh’s aviation sector and support the country’s ambition of becoming a major aviation gateway in the region.

The ceremony concluded with a joint declaration, marking a new milestone in the journey of US-Bangla Airlines and a strengthened partnership between US-Bangla Airlines, Boeing, and the United States–Bangladesh aviation cooperation framework.
