August remittances surge 25.52% in first 22 days

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.148 billion in remittances to the country during the first 22 days of August, according to Bangladesh Bank.

At the current exchange rate of Tk 123 per US dollar, the amount is equivalent to approximately Tk 264.204 billion.

Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan disclosed the information on Sunday (August 23).

According to the central bank, remittance inflows during the first 22 days of August recorded significant growth compared with the same period last year. Bangladesh received $1.711 billion in remittances from August 1 to 22, 2025, compared with $2.148 billion during the same period this year.

Remittance inflows therefore increased by $437 million year-on-year, representing a growth of approximately 25.52%.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh received a total of $5.006 billion in remittances from July 1 to August 22 of the current 2026-27 fiscal year. During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the country received $4.188 billion.

This means remittance inflows increased by $818 million year-on-year since the beginning of the current fiscal year, marking a growth of approximately 19.5%.

Remittances sent by expatriate Bangladeshis play an important role in strengthening the country's foreign exchange reserves and supporting the overall economy. The continued growth in remittance inflows since the beginning of the current fiscal year is being viewed as a positive development for the economy.
