Five more children died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,069 additional children either tested positive for measles or developed symptoms of the disease during the same period.
The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) measles situation report released on Monday (July 20).
According to the DGHS, three of the deaths were reported in Sylhet Division, while one child each died in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions with measles symptoms.
Since March 15, a total of 793 children have died from measles or measles-related symptoms nationwide. Of them, 698 died with measles symptoms, while 95 deaths were among laboratory-confirmed measles cases, the report said.
Over the past 24 hours, 147 new measles cases were confirmed, while 922 more children developed symptoms consistent with the disease.
Since March 15, health authorities have recorded 118,570 children with measles symptoms and 14,578 confirmed measles cases across the country.
The DGHS report also said that 101,026 children have been admitted to hospitals with measles or suspected measles since March 15. Of them, 97,532 have recovered and been discharged.
