2 more children die from measles symptoms

News Desk: Two more children have died with measles symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths related to measles-like illnesses to 880.

​This information was shared in a bulletin on the measles situation issued on Tuesday (August 11) by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

​According to the statement, no deaths were reported from confirmed measles between 8:00 AM on Monday and 8:00 AM on Tuesday; however, two children died from suspected measles. With this, the death toll since March 15 stands at 98 from confirmed measles and 782 from suspected measles cases.

​Additionally, 107 new cases of confirmed measles were identified, along with 872 new suspected measles cases.

​DGHS data indicates that a total of 138,184 suspected measles cases have been recorded since March 15, while 17,385 cases were officially confirmed during the same period.

​Division-wise data reveals that Dhaka recorded the highest number of deaths from confirmed measles at 62, followed by Barishal with 19, Chattogram with 10, Sylhet with 3, and Mymensingh and Rajshahi with 2 deaths each.

​Dhaka division also reported the highest number of deaths from suspected measles at 342, followed by Sylhet (125), Rajshahi (91), Mymensingh (72), Chattogram (61), Barishal (46), Khulna (32), and Rangpur (13).
