Nine People Die from Dengue in Bangladesh as 1,571 More Are Hospitalized

News Desk: Nine people have died from dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while another 1,571 patients have been admitted to hospitals during the same period.

The information was released in a press statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday (8 September).

With these latest deaths, the total number of dengue-related fatalities this year has risen to 130, while the total number of confirmed dengue cases has reached 45,394.

Earlier, on 7 September, the DGHS reported four dengue deaths. According to the health authority, among the newly hospitalized patients, 139 were from the Dhaka North City Corporation area, 143 from Dhaka South City Corporation, and 225 from other districts of the Dhaka Division.

Meanwhile, a three-month nationwide cleanliness and public awareness campaign to prevent dengue will begin on Saturday, 12 September, with its inauguration by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The Prime Minister has called on people across the country to actively participate in the campaign, as the next three months are considered a high-risk period for dengue transmission.

During a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday to discuss dengue prevention measures, the Prime Minister instructed officials that controlling dengue should not rely solely on mosquito eradication efforts. Instead, greater emphasis should be placed on maintaining cleanliness and raising public awareness.

He also directed that local administrations, volunteer organizations, and students should work together in a coordinated manner to implement dengue prevention activities at the community level.
