Chapainawabganj Correspondent: Police were attacked in Chapainawabganj for obstructing the attack on the house of the winning candidate who lost the election. The incident took place at Hosendanga village of Jhilim union in Sadar upazila on Thursday (January 6) afternoon. At least five policemen were injured in the attack.
Three of them have been admitted to hospital in critical condition. According to police, hospital and local sources, Shariat Ali was elected as a UP member on Wednesday (January 5) by getting 559 votes for the tubewell symbol in Ward 08 of Jhilim Union. His nearest rival Monirul Islam Moni got 545 votes for the current UP member Morg Pratik. Abdul Quddus Seratal is also in the third position with 519 votes. Anarul Islam got 300 votes for the apple symbol, Anu Bakkar got 240 votes for the football symbol and Sadiqul Islam got 41 votes for the fan symbol. The defeated candidates Monirul Islam Moni and Abdul Quddus Seratal and their men planned to attack the house of the winning candidate. Hundreds of people marched towards the house of the winning candidate Shariat with sticks. Before going to Shariat's house, he went in front of Hosendanga Government Primary School and the police got the news and rushed to the spot.
When the police tried to control the situation, they attacked. Newly elected UP member Shariat Ali said that after finding out about the attack on my house after losing the election, the police came to call the emergency helpline number 999. At that time they attacked the police. They smashed a police motorcycle. He even said that his life was in danger due to the incident. At least five policemen were injured in the attack. The three were admitted to the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital with serious injuries. Medical officer of the emergency department of the district hospital said. Sayeda Sultana said on her mobile phone that three policemen were admitted to the hospital.
The condition of two of them is very serious and various tests have been done on them. Additional Superintendent of Police Mahbub Alam Khan said on his mobile phone that the police were working to control the situation. Police are continuing their operation to arrest the remaining attackers.
