Pakistan High Commissioner, DU Vice Chancellor Discuss Educational Cooperation; Inaugurate Computer Lab at Urdu Department

Diplomatic Correspondent: Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Imran Haider, held a meeting with Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, at the latter's office on Tuesday, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education, research, and academic exchanges.

During the meeting, the two leaders explored opportunities to enhance educational collaboration through joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programmes, and broader academic partnerships between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner also briefed the Vice Chancellor on the growing interest among Bangladeshi students in the Allama Iqbal Scholarships offered under the Pakistan–Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor initiative. Both sides agreed that education serves as one of the strongest pillars for fostering mutual understanding, deepening collaboration, and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

Following the meeting, Mr. Haider and Prof. Dr. Islam jointly inaugurated a High Commission-sponsored Computer Lab along with newly renovated classroom facilities at the Urdu Department of the University of Dhaka.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam noted that the Urdu Department, established on July 1, 1921, is one of the oldest and most distinguished departments of the university. He said the department has made significant contributions to the study of language, literature, and culture for more than a century and appreciated the Pakistan High Commission's support in upgrading its academic facilities.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Imran Haider said the initiative reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Bangladesh to advancing education, promoting cultural understanding, and investing in the future of young people. He also thanked the University of Dhaka for preserving and nurturing its historic Urdu Department, describing it as a symbol of the university's dedication to linguistic diversity, literary scholarship, and cultural exchange.

The High Commissioner concluded by wishing the faculty members and students continued success in their academic pursuits and expressed confidence that educational and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh would continue to expand in the years ahead.
