Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Observes July Shaheed Dibosh 2026

Diplomatic Correspondent: The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu commemorated July Shaheed Dibosh 2026 with due solemnity and respect on Thursday, paying tribute to the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising 2024, whose sacrifices paved the way for democratic transformation in Bangladesh.

The observance began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the Hon'ble President and the Hon'ble Prime Minister highlighting the significance of the day. The program also featured documentary screenings on the background and importance of the July Movement, concluding with a special prayer for the eternal peace of the departed martyrs.

A discussion session was later held, bringing together members of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal, Bangladeshi students, representatives of think tanks and research institutions, distinguished guests, and youth representatives from Nepal.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman reflected on the historic significance of the July Mass Uprising 2024 and paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during the 36-day movement that led to the fall of the authoritarian regime.

He described the uprising as the culmination of years of public frustration over discrimination, corruption, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, the denial of voting rights, repression, and authoritarian rule. The Ambassador particularly praised the courage and leadership of Bangladesh's youth and Generation Z students, calling them the driving force behind the movement and key agents of democratic and social transformation.

He expressed hope that the spirit of the July Uprising would continue to inspire the nation in its pursuit of peace, justice, democracy, and inclusive development.
The event also featured remarks from Dr. Pramod Jaiswal, Research Director of the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE) and Guest Speaker at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), as well as Dr. Foyasal Khan, Founder and CEO of the Dhaka-based think tank Policy House. Both speakers highlighted the regional and historical significance of the July Mass Uprising and its lasting impact on Bangladesh's democratic journey.

Around 80 guests attended the commemorative event, which concluded with an early dinner featuring traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
