International Desk: India's Covid vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute has destroyed 10 crore doses of expired vaccine. According to the BBC, the CoviShield vaccine could not be supplied before the expiry date due to reduced demand. On Thursday (October 20), the chief executive of the company, Adar Punawala, said that since December last year, the production of the vaccine has been stopped due to declining demand for Covishield. 90 percent of the covid vaccines used in India are their own invented and manufactured CoviShield. About 200 crore vaccinations have been administered in the country so far. 70 percent of people in India have received 2 doses of the covid vaccine. From January 2022, India started giving booster doses to front-line workers and people over 60. Gradually, booster doses were given to other age groups. But so far they have been able to give only 3 crore booster doses. Poonawala said, “People are now fed up with Corona. So people don't have much headache about vaccination. Frankly, I'm fed up, we're all fed up with Covid now." He said that Serum Institute had 10 crore doses of vaccine in stock. However, the nine-month vaccines became unusable last September.
