Sexual Harassment: DU Teacher Exempted From Teaching Program

News Desk: The Academic Committee of the Department of Music of Dhaka University (DU) has dismissed the student from the education program for one year after alleging sexual harassment against the teacher. The name of the exempted teacher is Md. Enamul Haque He is Assistant Professor of Music Department of DU. This was confirmed by the chairman of the music department, Debprasad Dan. Debprasad Dan said, "Based on the opinion of the majority of teachers in the department, the recommendation to exempt Enamul from all educational programs for one year has been finalized. It will be officially sent to the university authorities soon. However, the university authorities will take the final decision through the syndicate as per the rules. For the time being, he has been asked to refrain from all kinds of academic activities, starting from classes, exams.” The students demanded the permanent exemption of the teacher. A meeting of the academic committee of the department is scheduled to be held tomorrow Sunday (August 21) to decide on this demand. It is known that the teacher recently offered a third year student of the department to have sex in a restaurant in the capital. Meanwhile, the victim student recorded the conversation of Enamul Haque. On August 14, a student of the music department filed a written complaint against the teacher to the department chairman Debprasad Dan. The music department made a committee on August 16 to investigate after getting it. The investigation committee formed on the basis of the complaint found the truth of the incident. It is also known that Enamul Haque confessed his crime in the academic committee meeting. In view of this, on August 17, Enamul was recommended to be exempted from the educational program.
