Students Announce Long March Programme for Wednesday

News Desk: HSC examinees have announced the suspension of their day-long protest over a three-point demand, including the resignation of Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon. They also announced a long march programme for tomorrow (Wednesday, July 15) to press for their demands.

Student representatives announced the decision to journalists at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday (July 14) at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the National Parliament.

Student representative Faiz Ahmed of Hazaribagh Government College said, "We are suspending today's programme. Tomorrow we will hold a long march demanding the resignation of the Education Minister, the suspension of tomorrow's examinations, and the rescheduling of the examination routine. We will first lay siege to the Education Board and then return to the front of the Parliament building. We will inform you (the journalists) of the detailed programme after further discussion tonight."

Since Tuesday morning, students had been demonstrating at the Science Lab intersection in the capital, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister, the suspension of the HSC and equivalent examinations, and the fulfillment of their three-point demands.

They later marched to the Dhaka Education Board and staged a protest there. At one point, clashes broke out as students and police hurled bricks and stones at each other.

The students then returned to the Science Lab intersection and blocked the road. Later, they moved to the front of the National Parliament building, where they continued their demonstration. Police eventually dispersed the protesters by charging them with batons.
