News Desk: Online applications for various government allowances and educational stipends under the Social Safety Net Programme will begin on August 1 and continue until August 31.
The information was disclosed in a recent directive issued by the Social Security Wing of the Department of Social Services.
According to the directive, the Department of Social Services will accept online applications for the Old Age Allowance, Widow and Destitute Women Allowance, Disability Allowance, Education Stipends for Students with Disabilities, as well as various allowances and educational stipends for disadvantaged communities. A nationwide awareness campaign will be conducted from July 1 to July 31 ahead of the application period.
The directive states that for the 2026–27 fiscal year, online applications will also be accepted for allowances and educational stipends under the Livelihood Improvement Programme for marginalized communities, including Hijra, Bede, other disadvantaged groups, and tea workers.
Eligible applicants can submit their applications through the official portal at dss.bhata.gov.bd/online-application within the specified application period.
Applicants must apply using their permanent address. Those applying for the Disability Allowance must possess a Subarna Nagarik (Golden Citizen) Card.
In addition, applicants must provide either an active mobile phone number registered with their National Identity Card (NID) or their personal bank account details. If a bank account is used, an active contact number must also be provided.
The Department of Social Services said that individuals already receiving regular benefits under any other government social safety net programme will not be eligible for consideration under this programme.
The directive also noted that applicants who have previously submitted online applications and are currently on the waiting list do not need to apply again.
Both new applications and those already on the waiting list will be reviewed and verified. Final beneficiaries will be selected based on eligibility, approval by the relevant authorities, and the availability of allocations, in accordance with existing government policies.
The department further stated that beneficiaries selected through the final approval process will be considered eligible to receive allowances and educational stipends effective from July 1, 2026.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the programme, divisional directors, district and upazila social service offices, deputy commissioners, upazila executive officers, and all relevant officials have been instructed to make the necessary preparations.
The directive also states that any technical issues encountered during the application or verification process should be reported to the Technical Team and designated officials of the Social Security Wing of the Department of Social Services.
