News Desk: Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that there is no longer any room for misconduct within the country's education system.
Speaking at the Primary Scholarship Award Ceremony on Sunday (12 July), the minister noted that a significant number of students were absent from this year's examinations. However, he expressed optimism that such a situation would not recur next year.
He said that scholarships play an important role in motivating students to pursue their studies. Referring to the previous cancellation of the primary scholarship examination, he remarked that it had been discontinued for reasons that remained unclear. He added that the government plans to expand the scholarship programme to include more students in the future.
Addressing the recent incident at an HSC examination centre in Char Fasson, Bhola, where candidates allegedly vandalized the venue after the expected questions did not appear in the exam, the minister said that a case has been filed. He added that authorities will review video footage after the examinations conclude and take action against those found responsible.
Also speaking at the event, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said that the amount of financial assistance provided to scholarship recipients is being increased. He added that the government is also working to make the examination system more effective and student-friendly.
This year, a total of 79,246 students received primary-level scholarships, including 32,965 under the Talent Pool category. Students in the Talent Pool category will receive Tk 300 per month, while those awarded General Grade scholarships will receive Tk 225 per month.
