Prime Minister Calls for Expediting the Restart of Loss-Making State-Owned Factories

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to expedite the process of reopening loss-making and closed state-owned industrial enterprises through both domestic and foreign investment.

The directive was issued during a meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday (July 4) to review the progress of efforts to revive the state-owned factories.

The Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary, Hasan Shiplu, confirmed the development.

According to him, officials informed the meeting that a number of private companies have expressed interest in investing in the factories. The government will now assess the feasibility of the industrial projects proposed by the interested investors.

Hasan Shiplu said the Prime Minister stressed that the entire process must be carried out transparently. He also instructed officials to avoid unnecessary delays and complete the process as quickly as possible.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was attended by Commerce, Industries, Jute and Textiles Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam, and the Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir.

Also present were Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, along with secretaries from the relevant ministries and senior officials from various agencies under the Ministry of Industries.
