The Prime Minister inaugurated Nazrul Year

​News Desk: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially inaugurated ‘Nazrul Year 2026-27’. The Prime Minister inaugurated Nazrul Year during a ceremony organized at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 2). This inauguration marked the auspicious commencement of observing 'Nazrul Year 2026-27' simultaneously across 64 districts and 74 selected upazilas of the country.

​The Prime Minister said that although National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was not born in the territory of Bangladesh, his entire heart belonged to Bangladesh, and the people of Bangladesh also loved him from the bottom of their hearts.

​He shared that Nazrul first came to Trishal in Mymensingh as a teenager in 1914. Relevant authorities have been directed to assess the feasibility of declaring that memory-laden Trishal as 'Nazrul City'.

​Tarique Rahman said that the period from May 25, 2026, to May 25, 2027, has been declared as 'Nazrul Year'. Kazi Nazrul Islam, the poet of rebellion, love, separation, and youth, is an unforgettable name in the literature, culture, history, and heritage of Bangladesh. His emergence in the sky of a subjugated nation's destiny was like a beacon of light. Even today, inspiration to stand up against injustice and oppression is drawn from his creations. Nazrul's poems and songs were a powerful source of inspiration during the glorious Liberation War as well as various other movements and struggles of the country.

​The Prime Minister stated that Nazrul is equally relevant not just to the past, but also to the present and future generations. For this reason, the year-long initiative to observe Nazrul Year has been taken to deepen and strengthen the connection of the general public, especially the new generation, with the life and works of the National Poet.

​The government has declared a year-long 'Nazrul Year' to mark the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Its duration is from May 25 of the current year to May 25 of next year.

​Earlier, on May 25, during the 127th birth anniversary program of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Trishal, Mymensingh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had declared the one-year period from May 25, 2026, to May 25, 2027, as 'Nazrul Year'. Thursday marked the official inauguration of that declaration.
