News Desk: A total of 180 foreign detainees from various countries were repatriated from the Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot in Malaysia’s Johor state throughout the third week of June.
In a statement issued on Sunday (June 21), the Malaysian Immigration Department said that those repatriated included 132 Myanmar nationals, 22 Bangladeshis, 12 Vietnamese, 9 Thais, 2 Nepalese, and one citizen each from Sri Lanka, China, and Singapore.
The department stated that the detainees were sent back to their respective countries through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA 1 and KLIA 2), Senai International Airport, and the Sultan Iskandar Building ICQS Complex.
The cost of repatriation air tickets was covered through the detainees’ personal savings, financial assistance from their families, and, in some cases, by the respective embassies.
The statement further noted that these foreign nationals were repatriated after completing their sentences under various Malaysian laws.
The Immigration Department also announced that all repatriated individuals have been placed on the department’s blacklist. As a result, they will not be permitted to re-enter Malaysia for any purpose within the specified restriction period.
