‎Bangladesh Flag to Be Raised on Russia’s Highest Mountain, Mount Elbrus

Diplomatic Correspondent: Bangladeshi mountaineer and Everest summiteer Ikramul Hasan Shakil is set to travel to Russia in September to attempt the summit of Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Russia and Europe, standing at 5,642 metres above sea level in the Caucasus Mountains.

‎At a press conference and flag handover ceremony held today at the Russian House in Dhaka, Ikramul Hasan Shakil received the National Flag of Bangladesh, which he will carry during the expedition and display upon reaching the summit of Mount Elbrus.
‎The expedition is scheduled to begin with his departure from Dhaka on 19 September 2026 and will span approximately 15 days. Beyond the challenge of high-altitude mountaineering, the expedition represents a meaningful initiative bringing together Bangladesh and Russia through a shared spirit of courage, adventure, exploration and discovery.

‎The raising of the Bangladeshi National Flag on Mount Elbrus will also carry a special message of friendship between the peoples of Bangladesh and Russia, highlighting the strong bonds and mutual respect that connect the two countries.
‎The expedition is jointly organised by the Russian House in Dhaka and the Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC).
