Thai Halal Products Eye Bangladesh Market

Diplomatic Correspondent: Thailand is seeking to expand its presence in Bangladesh’s growing halal market, with a particular focus on cosmetics and other high-quality consumer products.

‎The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka organised the “Promoting Thai Halal Products in Bangladesh” project from 9–12 August 2026, bringing Thai businesses and experts from the Halal Science Center of Chulalongkorn University to Bangladesh.
‎During the four-day programme, the Thai delegation met representatives of key Bangladeshi institutions, including the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). They also held discussions with retailers and online platforms, including Sundora, Unimart and Arogga, to better understand consumer demand and explore opportunities for introducing more Thai halal products to the local market.

‎A major feature of the programme was a seminar on Thailand’s HAL-Q system and the country’s use of science and technology in halal product development. The seminar was jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy and the Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI).

Experts from Chulalongkorn University’s Halal Science Center presented Thailand’s experience in applying scientific methods, including DNA testing, to verify halal compliance and strengthen quality assurance.

‎Although Thailand is not a Muslim-majority country, it has developed significant expertise in the halal sector through scientific research, strict quality control and internationally oriented production standards. These measures are aimed at ensuring that halal-certified Thai products meet the religious and quality expectations of Muslim consumers.

‎Bangladesh, with a population of more than 170 million and one of the world’s largest Muslim populations, represents a significant potential market for halal products.
‎
‎The initiative reflects growing interest among Thai businesses in Bangladesh and is expected to create opportunities for greater trade, investment and cooperation between the two countries.
‎
‎The Royal Thai Embassy said the initiative could help bring a wider range of Thai halal products to Bangladeshi consumers while strengthening economic ties between Thailand and Bangladesh.
