News Desk: Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud has been transferred following the widely discussed murder of four members of a family. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mahbubur Rashid of the Special Branch has been appointed as the new Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
The transfer was made through a notification signed by Home Ministry Deputy Secretary Tawsif Ahmed on Tuesday (August 25). The order will take effect immediately, according to the notification.
Abdul Mabud had assumed office as Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner on August 12. He was transferred just 13 days after taking charge.
On August 23, Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud held a press conference regarding the killing of retired schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, his wife, and two others in Rangpur. He said two young men had been detained in connection with the murders.
While describing the brutal details of the four killings, the police official became emotional and broke down in tears.
