CNI Desk: A Dhaka court today rejected bail petition of Khorshed Alam, a caretaker of Alif Hostel, and sent him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj in a case filed over disappearing certificates and other valuables of 50 students for "not paying rent for three months" during the pandemic of Covid-19.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashek Imam passed the order after Md Biplob Hossain, a sub-inspector of Kalabagan Police Station and investigation officer of the case, produced Khorshed before the court on completion of his one-day remand.

In the forwarding report, the IO said Khorshed gave important information about the incident which was being verified. The IO appealed to the court to confine Khorshed until the investigation is completed.

On the other hand, defence lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail of Khorshed in connection of the case.

After hearing both the sides, the magistrate rejected the bail petition and sent him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Md Sohan, one of the students, filed the case with Kalabagan Police Station against hostel owner Saikot Hossain, its caretaker Khorshed Alam and flat owner Md Kanchan on Thursday.

Following the case, police arrested Khorshed while Saikot and Kanchan went into hiding to avoid the arrest.

Sohan, in the case, said their landlord in association with the duo threw away their certificates and other valuables into a dustbin from their rooms as they failed to pay house rent for three months due to Covid-19 pandemic.
