Youth sentenced to life imprisonment in Manikganj drug case

Manikganj Correspondent:  The court sentenced a young man named Munnaf Hossain (39) to life imprisonment for selling heroin. Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Judge Jayashree Samddar gave this verdict today on Monday (October 9) at noon. At the same time, the court sentenced Munnaf to one more year of imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of 20,000 taka.

In the same case, if it is proved that the Yaba tablets were recovered from him, the court sentenced him to one year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of 10 thousand taka, in default of payment of two months imprisonment. 

The imprisoned Munnaf Hossain is the son of Akhter Hossain of Baimile area of ​​Singair upazila of the district. He was present in the court during the announcement of the verdict this afternoon.

Brief description of the case says that Munnaf Hossain was arrested with 100 grams of heroin and 185 pitch yaba tablets while selling and buying drugs in Shibpur area of ​​Singair upazila on March 9, 2021. Later in this incident, SI said. Obaidur Rahman became the plaintiff and filed a case against the Singair police station under the Narcotics Control Act.

The investigating officer of the case, SI Md. Masud Rana Shamim, accused Munnaf Hossain after the investigation and filed a charge sheet in the court on April 3, 2021. After the arguments of both sides in the case, the judge of the court gave this judgment in the presence of the accused by taking the testimony of 8 people.

The defense lawyer in this case was PP Abdus Salam. Although he expressed satisfaction with the verdict, the lawyer for the accused has appealed to the High Court.
