Russian troops have surrounded the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine

International Desk:  Russian troops are surrounding the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine. A fierce battle is now underway with Ukrainian forces to take control of the main road connecting the neighboring city of Chasiv Yar. This was claimed by an official appointed by Russia in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday. Mutt is now practically surrounded. Our forces are wrapping up the encirclement of the city. Now there is fighting on the Chasiv Yar-Bakhmut highway. 

Earlier, Russia claimed to occupy some areas around Bakhmut. Along with the Russian troops, mercenary Wagner group soldiers continue to fight in these areas. 

After May last year, Russia did not conduct any significant operations in Ukraine for almost six months. Ukraine has made great use of this opportunity. They took away many areas of Kharkiv and Kherson regions from Russia. It was thought that Russia would start attacking again when the winter gets worse. Meanwhile, the United States and Germany announced the delivery of advanced tanks to Ukraine. Since then, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on Ukraine. In the meantime, Russian forces have captured the city of Soledar. 

Ukraine's strongest position in the Donetsk region is in the Soledar-Bakhmut area. After Soledar, Bakhmut was the target of Russian troops. There is still one road open for the Ukrainian troops to escape, and the fighting is now going on to occupy it. If that road is taken over by Russia, Bakhmut will be practically blocked.
