International desk: Israel attacked Rafa without paying attention to Biden's warning. Rafa was attacked on Thursday.
Earlier, Biden warned Israel that if Israel attacks the southern Gaza town of Rafah, he will stop supplying them with weapons. It was the first US warning to Israel during the conflict with Hamas. But Israel did not listen to Biden's warning.
They have already deployed tanks in Rafah and operations have begun there. Israel has launched an operation there, citing Rafah as the last stronghold of Hamas. According to a report by the news agency AFP, there was heavy shelling in Rafah on Thursday morning.
Later, the Israeli military said that they had targeted various positions of Hamas. Meanwhile, Israel described Biden's warning not to attack Rafah as disappointing. In an interview given to CNN, Biden also condemned the killing of civilians as a result of US bombing of Palestinian territories.
Millions of helpless Palestinians have taken refuge in the town of Rafah near the Egyptian border. They have nowhere else to go. There is no place left in Gaza that Israeli forces have not attacked. Now if Israel attacks Rafa in full scale, where will these homeless people go?
The renewed warning comes after the United States halted a shipment of bombs to Israel last week amid concerns that Israel was preparing to launch a major attack on the town of Rafah. Biden warned Israel, "If they attack Rafah, I will not supply them with weapons." We will not supply the weapons and artillery used to attack Rafah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already made it clear that he will attack Rafa. Privately, several US officials said that President Biden does not agree with the Israeli Prime Minister on this matter. He is not in favor of attacking Rafa. Israel took control of the Rafah border crossing early Tuesday. Relief was being delivered through that border crossing in the besieged Gaza Strip. But now that control there is also in Israel's hands, relief supplies will be hampered.
As a result, various countries of the world, including the United Nations, have been warning from the beginning that there may be a humanitarian disaster. Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that hospitals in southern Gaza only have enough fuel to last three days.
He warned that without fuel, all humanitarian activities would stop and the crisis would intensify. According to a report by Al Jazeera, Israel sent troops and tanks to the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Tuesday (May 7). The crossing located in the city is the main route for foreign aid to reach the besieged Gaza Strip. But the Israeli forces are blocking the entry of fuel into Gaza through this route.
