News Desk: Awami League General Secretary and Roads and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the people of the country are happy when the Padma Bridge is built.

The bridge minister made the remarks while virtually joining the Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League renewal and Eid reunion function on Wednesday (May 25) morning. He was virtually connected from his official residence in Dhaka.

Obaidul Quader called upon the leaders and workers of Chittagong and other parts of the country to start preparations for the 63rd founding anniversary of Awami League on June 23 and inauguration of Padma Bridge on June 25.

BNP leader Khaleda Zia had said that there would be no Padma Bridge, this government would never be able to do that.

What will the BNP show the people in the next national election? What will show the development? The general secretary of the Awami League said in this regard, they have nothing to show.

Obaidul Quader thinks that the BNP has nothing to show the people except the corruption of Hawa Bhaban, the corruption of Tareq Rahman and the corruption of embezzling the money of their leader's orphans.

Addressing the party leaders and workers, the Awami League general secretary said, "People have to be happy by behaving well, otherwise Sheikh Hasina's success and development will be tarnished."

He called upon the Awami League leaders to carry out pure blood by removing contaminated blood from the party.

Acting President of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the function. Ayesha Khanam, Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary and former City Mayor AJM Nasir and Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel were present.

Earlier, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader along with central leaders paid homage to national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at his grave on the occasion of his birth anniversary. After paying his respects, Obaidul Quader told reporters that Kazi Nazrul Islam was the bearer and carrier of non-communal humanitarian consciousness.

He said that his songs have inspired our liberation war. There are branches of communalism in Bangladesh even today. That branch has to build a non-communal Bangladesh by uprooting the poisonous tree of communalism under the leadership of Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina.
