He said these things in response to a question from journalists before the inauguration of the ramp of the Karwan Bazar section of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway on Wednesday (March 20) morning.
Obaidul Quader said in response to a question regarding the non-stopping of Lakkar-Jhakkar buses even in 12 years of the ministry, "I am a minister, I will not fix buses." If these buses are stopped, you will be the first to get on the road. Say, I make people suffer. "In 12 years, we have not done less work. Padma bridge has been completed, metro rail has been completed. Why are you slandering 12 years? How much work has been done under this ministry? Everything will be done, give some time.'-said the bridge minister.
In response to the question why the traffic jam increases in Dhaka during Ramadan, the general secretary of Awami League said, "In Ramadan, people are burdened by Eid and go to shopping malls." There will be a little traffic jam. But there is no traffic jam from Uttara to Motijheel. People are going in less time. Now there is elevated expressway. It will be fine slowly. It won't happen all at once.'
About the Bus Rapid Transit or BRT project, the minister said, "This project has been delayed a little." This too will be done. Obaidul Quader said about the ramp of the Karwan Bazar part of the expressway, "Earlier on September 3 last year, the elevated expressway was opened from the airport to Farmgate. Karwan Bazar ramp is being opened today. It is an Eid gift from the Prime Minister to the countrymen.
The General Secretary of Awami League said, "This project will not be completed within this year. I will be able to open the whole at the beginning of next year. After that the Hatirjheel ramp will be opened. That's how the work is going on. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first section of the expressway on September 2, 2023. The next day, the 11.5 km section of the airport from Kawla to Farmgate was opened. There were a total of 15 ramps in that section. The 16th ramp has now been opened.
Except for motorcycles and three-wheelers, all other vehicles can travel on the expressway by tolling at a fixed rate. Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has also introduced special bus services on the expressway for general passengers.
Six months after the inauguration of the expressway, the down ramp adjacent to FDC of the expressway was opened today. As a result of its inauguration, the vehicles coming from Uttara will be able to easily reach Moghbazar, Hatirjheel and Karwan Bazar areas.
