Khaleda Zia's Coal Mine Corruption Case Filing Postponed

News desk: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and other accused in the Barapukuria coal mine corruption case has postponed the hearing date. The court has scheduled hearing on May 28, Sunday in Keraniganj, the judge of Dhaka's special judge court-2. Aktaruzzaman's court fixed this date.

Today was the date of the hearing of the complaint formation of the case. However, the main accused in the case, Khaleda Zia, could not appear in court due to illness. Masood Ahmed Talukder appeared on his behalf. Lawyers for the other accused pleaded for time to postpone the hearing of the charge sheet.

The court granted the application and fixed the next date for the hearing. Khaleda Zia's lawyer Abdul Hannan Bhuiyan gave this information. In addition to Khaleda Zia, the other 9 accused in this case are - Former Minister of Commerce Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Former Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Khandaker Mosharof Hossain, former Information Minister M. Shamsul Islam, Md. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Hosaf Group Chairman Moazzem Hossain, former Secretary Energy and Mineral Resources Nazrul Islam, former Director of Petrobangla Moinul Ahsan, former Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Resources AKM Mosharf Hossain.

On February 26, 2008, the ACC filed a Barapukuria coal mine corruption case against Khaleda Zia and 16 other members of her cabinet. The case was filed at Shahbag police station by the then assistant director of anti-corruption commission. Samshul Alam Consortium of China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) approved the Barapukuria coal mine and entered into a production, management and maintenance contract with CMC, the second highest bidder in the coal extraction of the state, causing a loss of about 158 ​​crore 71 lakh rupees to the government.

Later, Khaleda Zia filed a writ in the High Court challenging the legality of filing this case. On October 16, 2008, the Barapukuria coal mine case was suspended by the High Court.
