3 Weapons Including Rifle and 13 Rounds of Ammunition Recovered in Teknaf

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A gang of armed robbers fled during a joint operation by the Coast Guard and police while they were staying in the hills adjacent to the highway road in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, with the intention of robbery and kidnapping. Later, a foreign rifle and live ammunition used by them were recovered.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon provided this information on Wednesday, August 26, at noon.

He said that confidential information was received that a gang of robbers was staying in the hills adjacent to Bridge No. 14 at Damdamia on the Teknaf Highway Road in Cox’s Bazar with the intention of kidnapping and robbery.

Based on the information received, a joint operation was conducted in the area at 5 a.m. on Wednesday (August 26) in coordination with Coast Guard Station Teknaf and the police. Sensing the presence of the joint forces, the members of the robbery gang fled into the hills. A search of the area recovered 1 foreign G-3 rifle (with magazine), 2 locally made firearms, 3 locally made weapons, 13 rounds of live ammunition, and 1 litre of locally made liquor used in the robbery.

On the other hand, in the Sabrang area of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, members of the Teknaf and Sabrang Coast Guard stations conducted another special operation at 8 p.m. last Tuesday based on confidential information. Searching a suspicious residential house, they seized 5,000 pieces of yaba worth approximately Tk 2.5 million. At that time, the drug dealers fled after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, and therefore no one could be arrested.

The process of taking subsequent legal action regarding the recovered weapons and ammunition and the seized drugs is underway.
