Motorcycles of Three People, Including Journalist, Stolen in Shewrapara; Case Filed Against House Owner

News Desk: Three motorcycles, including that of a journalist, were stolen from the garage of a residential building in West Shewrapara, Mirpur, in the capital. Despite regularly paying rent to use the garage for security purposes, the victims alleged that the building owners have refused to take responsibility for the theft. The suspicious behavior of the owners and the disappearance of the security guard have also raised allegations of their possible involvement in the incident.

Journalist Shimul Hossain, one of the victims, filed a case under Section 380 of the Penal Code with Mirpur Model Police Station. The case, No. 40, was filed on August 20, 2026. Hossain works as a multimedia reporter for Voice of Democracy (VOD).

According to the case statement, the three motorcycles were stolen from the garage of the residential building “Golap Banu Tower,” located at 652 West Shewrapara under Mirpur Model Police Station, sometime between 11:00 pm on August 16 and 9:30 am on August 17. The victims had parked and locked their motorcycles in the garage as usual. However, when they went to the garage the following morning, they found that the motorcycles were missing.

The estimated market value of the three stolen motorcycles is approximately Tk 697,000. They include journalist Shimul Hossain’s black Yamaha FZ Version 2, valued at approximately Tk 225,000; Rifat Alam Farhad’s black Suzuki Monotone 150cc, valued at approximately Tk 205,000; and Kazi Nesar Ahmed’s black Pulsar N160, valued at approximately Tk 267,000.

In the complaint, the plaintiff said they regularly paid rent to use the building’s garage because of security concerns. However, on the night of the theft, the security guard responsible for the garage, Md. Abdul Mannan, was reportedly asleep. He has not been seen at his workplace since the theft.

The complaint also expressed suspicion that an unidentified group of thieves may have carried out the theft with the direct or indirect assistance of security guard Abdul Mannan and house owners Nur Alam, Akram and Akbar. The victims alleged that the building owners behaved irresponsibly when approached about the incident. According to the complaint, house owner Nur Alam allegedly denied responsibility and said, “The theft has happened, so what can I do?”

One of the victims alleged that the garage owner and security guard were responsible, saying the locks of all three motorcycles were broken and the bikes were taken from the garage in the morning, yet neither the guard nor anyone else claimed to have noticed anything. The victim also alleged that the house owners refused to accept responsibility and behaved badly when questioned about the missing motorcycles.

The victim said he had purchased his motorcycle on installments and had not yet been able to pay the full amount. He urged the authorities to recover his motorcycle as soon as possible.

Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman said that following the filing of the case, police were reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the theft and were working to recover the stolen motorcycles.
