Adulterated ghee and curd cheese made in unsanitary conditions in Saturia; factory sealed

Manikganj Correspondent: The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has sealed off a factory and fined it BDT 50,000 in Saturia, Manikganj, over allegations of producing adulterated ghee and cottage cheese (chhana) in unhygienic conditions.

​The fine was imposed during a drive conducted on Wednesday (August 19) at Gopal Ghosh's cottage cheese factory in Uttar Shimulia village of Doragram Union in the upazila.

​Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director (Additional Charge) of the Manikganj District Office of DNCRP, led the drive. District Safe Food Officer Roushan Ara Begum, Sanitary Inspector Nilufar Yasmin Jhorna working at the Upazila Health Complex, and members of the Manikganj Ansar Battalion assisted during the operation.

​Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director (Additional Charge) of the District Office of DNCRP, stated that during today's operation, it was observed that the pond water Gopal Ghosh used to cool the cottage cheese was located next to a cowshed, polluted with duck droppings, and overall filthy. Moreover, large quantities of fake ghee and cottage cheese were being manufactured daily using dalda (hydrogenated vegetable oil). Today, a huge quantity of fake cottage cheese was destroyed, the factory producing cottage cheese in unhygienic conditions was sealed off, and a fine of BDT 50,000 was imposed under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
