News Desk: US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning that he would launch bomb attacks on the Gulf country of Oman if it obstructs efforts to end the ongoing conflict with Iran.

This is the second time he has issued such a direct threat against Oman, one of the United States’ oldest strategic partners and a country known as an important mediator between Tehran and Washington.

In a television interview, Trump said that if Oman creates any obstacle to the process of ending the conflict, the country would face a severe attack. His remarks came after the diplomatic deadline set between Washington and Tehran to end the nearly six-month-long conflict expired without a final agreement.

However, he also said that he was in no hurry to reach a deal despite the lack of progress and was not imposing any specific deadline. At the same time, he claimed that Iran should display a white flag of surrender and that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons would remain the main objective.

Under an agreement signed on the sidelines of the G7 summit last June, a maximum 60-day deadline had been set to resolve various disputes, including the lifting of sanctions and Iran’s nuclear programme. That deadline expired without any agreement being reached.

Tensions have further increased amid ongoing discussions between Oman and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important waterways for global trade. Despite being a longtime US ally, Oman has previously faced threats from Trump during cabinet meetings as well.

Amid Trump’s aggressive remarks, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that its official discussions with Oman were continuing positively.
