News Desk: At least three people, including a child, were shot and 10 others injured in a series of clashes and gunfire between two groups of Jubo Dal over control of scrap (jhut) business from a garment factory in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area.
The incident took place around 9:30 AM on Thursday (April 9) in the Chandni Housing area near the BSCIC industrial zone.
The seriously injured include Rakib (23), son of local BNP leader Md. Hossain Khoka; BNP activist Rafik (40); and 13-year-old madrasa student Imran Hossain, son of local resident Asmaul Hossain. Imran is currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the conflict occurred between two rival factions—one led by Sarjil Ahmed Abhi and the other by Masudur Rahman—over control of garment factory waste. Both groups reportedly took positions with local and foreign weapons, which later escalated into gunfire and explosions.
During the clash, Rakib and passerby Imran were shot. The sound of gunfire and bombs created panic across the entire Chandni Housing area. Imran reportedly lay injured on the road for some time before locals rescued him and took him first to Khanpur Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police and local sources said that after the fall of the Awami League government during a mass uprising, disputes over control of scrap business from Best Style Composite Limited intensified between the two groups. The conflict eventually led to this violent confrontation.
Masud Rahman, a local Jubo Dal leader, claimed the incident was purely business-related and not political. He also denied any personal involvement, stating he learned about the incident after waking up.
Additional Superintendent of Police Hasinuzzaman said police brought the situation under control around 10:30 AM after receiving the news. Preliminary investigations suggest that two local factions of Jubo Dal were involved, and the clash stemmed from a long-standing dispute over control of factory scrap.
He added that it is still unclear which group opened fire, but police have been deployed in the area to maintain normalcy. Legal action will be taken against those involved.
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mannan confirmed that the situation is now under control. Authorities are identifying those involved in the clash, and legal action will follow.
