War in the Middle East: Collapse in vegetable exports, fear of losing markets

News Desk: Vegetable exports have collapsed due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Bangladesh's position in foreign markets is in crisis as 90 percent of exports have stopped in the last few days. Exporters are facing losses.

Meanwhile, at least 102 flights from Dhaka have been canceled in the last three days. Although 180 exporters send an average of 35 to 40 tonnes of vegetables abroad every day, markets in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait are now at a standstill due to the war.

Chilli, gourd, brinjal, gourd, papaya, chichinga, barbati, bean, tomato are exported daily from Bangladesh to various countries of Middle East and Europe. Exports have increased by 26 percent in the eight months of the current financial year, but this growth is under threat in the current situation.

Businessmen fear, if this crisis is prolonged, the market of Bangladesh will be taken over by competing countries.
