Embassies in Bangladesh – Sweden, Denmark and Norway – hosted a virtual event on 17 February 2021

News Desk: The Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industries (NCCI), in collaboration with the Nordic Embassies in Bangladesh – Sweden, Denmark, and Norway– hosted a virtual event on 17 February 2021 focused on addressing topics related to trade and investment in Bangladesh for Nordic businesses titled “Building a Sustainable Environment for Foreign Direct Investment: Outlook and Opportunities for Bangladesh.”


The webinar provided an opportunity for Nordic companies to have an exchange of views with key policymakers on the issues related to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Nordic investors shared their experiences and provided inputs to the work of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) towards promoting FDI in a sustainable and fair fashion. 


Mr. Miah Rahmat Ali, Senior Private Sector Specialist of International Finance Corporation (IFC) presented the keynote paper at the event highlighted the development of the overall business environment and the bottlenecks to attract FDI. 


The chief guest of the event Salman F Rahman, Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister stressed that Nordic countries have been amongst its most crucial development partners since Bangladesh’s inception. He also said the government places the highest importance on the attraction of FDIs and diversifying export baskets. 


Speaking on behalf of the Nordic Embassies in Bangladesh, the Swedish Ambassador Alex Berg von Linde said, “The Nordic countries remain committed to our partnership with Bangladesh to strengthen the possibilities of our companies to be agents for sustainable development in Bangladesh. In this regard, we especially value our good and long-standing dialogue with the Government of Bangladesh and its’ Agencies and Authorities on issues relating to the Ease of Doing Business in the country.”


Md. Sirazul Islam, Executive Chairman, BIDA, and Mr. Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, Chairman, NBR, joined the event as a special guest and also addressed the audiences and provide valuable insights.
