CNI Desk: The fears of the new coronavirus mutation have made us more scared. Considered to be 70% more infectious, fresher cases are fast emerging and making many wonder if they are probably infected- either asymptomatically or symptomatically.

Nonetheless, as they say, early detection is better than later problems. According to experts, here are 4 sure signs when a person should take a COVID test:

How can a COVID case go from mild to severe?

According to Dr Arvind Mohan, Chairman - Institute of Chest Surgery, Chest Onco-Surgery & Lung Transplantation at Medanta lung fibrosis, depreciated lung functioning are often problems associated with COVID-19 and can persist for long. COVID pneumonia is also a common cause of mortality.

A paper published by John Hopkins Medicine, the signs and symptoms of lung complications associated with COVID- in the short term and long term can be determined by a few simple signs in the initial days.

We tell you about a few warning signs to look for:

Non-stop, persisting coughing

SARS-COV-2 is known to multiply in the chest linings and cause bad coughing attacks. Not only is dry cough a typical sign of COVID-19, but if you experience non-stop coughing, which doesn't improve even 2-3 weeks after the initial infection bout, it may be a sign of lung complication with COVID.

Apart from this, harsh, persisting coughing could also be a sign of long COVID.

Experiencing shortness of breath

Shortness of breath or dyspnea is a problem which usually happens when there is any kind of infestation or compromised lung function, which makes it difficult for oxygen to get into your lungs.

For people with COVID, especially those belonging to high-risk groups, experiencing shortness of breath, or a dip in oxygen saturation can be common, and turn fatal in no time.

Patients who experience shortness of breath require oxygen support and ventilation and suffer from chest complications. This can also bring on problems after recovery, since such patients may require additional help and support to resume normal functioning.

You experience chest pain, breathing difficulties

Doctors now warn that struggling to breathe, or experiencing acute chest pain out of the blue may be a sign of severe COVID-19 related lung damage, or ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome), which is a sign of lung failure.

Be it a mild or fatal sign, ARDS and related complications may be a sign of inflammation in the lungs and can have lasting repercussions, such as lung scarring. Hence, immediate attention is required.
