BNP boycotted vote but people did not: Hasan Mahmud

News Desk: Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said that more than 50 percent of votes have been cast in Barisal City and close to 50 percent in Khulna. The elections of these two cities have proved that people do not boycott even if BNP boycotts votes. Even in the future, if BNP boycotts the vote, the people will participate in the next elections in a big way. He said this at an event organized on the occasion of the unveiling of a book of juvenile novels based on the Liberation War and an exchange of views with journalists at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Information on Tuesday (June 13). The Information Minister said that the voting was held very peacefully yesterday. People voted seamlessly through the festive spirit. More than 50 percent votes cast in Barisal and close to 50 percent in Khulna. It has been proved that even though BNP boycotted the vote, the people did not boycott the vote.

I think BNP needs to learn from this vote. He said, BNP has boycotted the polls, prohibited their voters from going to the polling booths, prohibited their party workers from participating in the polls. But it was seen that their party leaders and workers were candidates in two city corporation polls and people did not respond to their calls. People exercised the right to vote. This proves that even though BNP boycotted the vote, the people did not boycott the vote. Even in the future, if BNP boycotts the vote, the people will participate in the next elections in a big way. A question was put to the Information Minister by the journalists - Islamic movement is in the second position in the Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections.

They have announced to boycott the upcoming polls in Sylhet and Rajshahi. Do you think there is any motivation or reason behind the peaceful boycott? In response, the Information Minister said, the Islamic movement has announced a boycott of voting in Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporation - the party is in the second position. But those who won got nearly three times as many votes as they did. They have realized that they have no hope in the next two elections. That is why they made this announcement to get rid of the sadness of defeat.

At this time, Hasan Mahmud, pointing to the issue of physically assaulting the candidate of the Islamic Movement in the Barisal City Corporation election, said that those who did it, the Election Commission and the administration are investigating. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. I saw in the media that he was punched in the face but did not bleed. But physically assaulting a candidate is by no means advisable. Over all, the voting was very beautiful, peaceful. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said that fair voting is not possible under the current government. When asked by the journalists about this, the information minister said that all the newspapers of the country wrote that there was a very fair and beautiful vote.
