International Desk: Due to political unrest and irregularities in the financial sectors, Pakistan is in economic crisis. This crisis has adversely affected the country's health sector. Currently, common people are not getting even essential medicines. The foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Pakistan are almost at the bottom. Due to which the manufacturers are not able to bring the raw materials to make the medicine. As a result, the local medicine manufacturing companies have been forced to reduce the production. And due to shortage of medicines, doctors are not performing surgery even though patients are lying in hospital beds.

Pakistani media reported that the operation theater currently has only two weeks' worth of anesthetics. A drug that is essential for surgeries for sensitive diseases like heart, cancer and kidney. It is also feared that those who work in hospitals may lose their jobs. Which will further increase the suffering of the common people. Drug manufacturers are blaming the current financial system for this crisis. They said that the commercial banks are not giving permission for letter of credit (LC) to import raw materials.

Pakistan's pharmaceutical industry is almost entirely import-dependent. 95% of the raw materials of the total medicines come from India, China and other countries. But due to the dollar crisis, raw materials have been stuck at Karachi port for a long time. The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), an alliance of the country's drug manufacturing companies, called on the government to solve the problem a few days ago. The agency said it must be stopped before the problem spirals out of control. Retail drug dealers in Pakistan's Punjab province said the government recently conducted a survey on the drug crisis.

They said that now very common but essential medicines like Panadol, Insulin, Brufen, Disprin, Calpol, Tagral, Nimesulide, Hepamarz, Buscopan and Rivotril are not available in the market. Last month (January) Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) Central Chairman Saeed Farooq Bukhari reported that the production of medicine has decreased by about 25 percent. He warned that if the ban on the import of raw materials is maintained for the next 4-5 weeks, there will be an acute shortage of medicines.
