International Desk:  On the one-year anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he has decided to suspend the 'New Start' agreement with the United States on nuclear weapons. After Putin's announcement, the fear of 'nuclear war' started again.

Amid such fears, the Russian president spoke about the nuclear capability of NATO, the military alliance led by the United States. He said, NATO has announced that they want to defeat Russia strategically. And in such a situation, Russia should take into account the issue of NATO's nuclear power.

In an interview with Russia Television One on Sunday (February 26), Putin said, 'In today's situation, when all NATO-led countries have announced that their main goal is to strategically defeat Russia, so that our people suffer, then how can we ignore their nuclear power in such a situation? Do?'

He also said, 'The West had one goal - to break up the former Soviet Union and its important part, Russia.'

Russia signed the New Start Agreement with the United States in 2010. The then US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the agreement. According to the treaty, Russia and the United States agreed to limit the production of nuclear weapons to a certain number of countries. Besides, they can monitor each other's weapon activity.

After Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the United States provided arms support to Ukraine. Despite this assistance, Russia said that they will remain in the New Start agreement. But on the eve of the war's anniversary, President Vladimir Putin suddenly announced its suspension.
