International Desk:  An explosion occurred on Monday at the Police Line Mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan. The death toll has increased to 59. At least 157 people were injured in this explosion. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack on Monday night.

Mohammad Asim, the spokesperson of Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, confirmed the increase in the number of casualties and said that the condition of many under treatment in the hospital is more serious.

Peshawar Police Commissioner Riyaz Mehsud said that an emergency has been declared in Peshawar city hospitals to treat the injured.

The blast occurred during Zohar prayers on Monday. A part of the mosque collapsed and many of those in the front row fell under it.

After the explosion, the front roof of the main part of the mosque with a capacity of 200-250 worshipers collapsed, said Peshawar Police Officer Mohammad Ijaz Khan.

He also said that the bodies of some policemen are still trapped under that roof.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Imran Khan have condemned the incident. Prime Minister Shahbaz has directed his party leaders to donate blood for the injured.
