3 killed, more than 150 injured in container blast

News Desk: A fire has been reported at the BM container depot at Sonaichhari in Sitakunda, Chittagong. 13 units are working to control the fire.

The incident took place on Saturday (May 4) night. Confirming the death, ASI Alauddin Talukder of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost said about six policemen were injured in the blaze.

Sitakunda Fire Service firefighter Rubel Rana said the fire was not under control until 2pm. Nearby fire service units are on the scene. Many firefighters were injured. Many are missing. So far 3 firefighters are missing. Our officers went to the hospital to see the injured.

According to the police and fire service, the fire started at the loading point of BM Container Depot after 9 pm on Saturday. Three units of the fire service tried to control the fire at the scene.

Two people were burnt to death in the blaze and another was pronounced dead at the hospital. More than 150 people, including firefighters and police personnel, were injured in the incident.

It is learned that the fire broke out in the containers around 11 pm tonight. The epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The victims have been admitted to different hospitals.
