More than 20 million corona vaccines came from China

News Desk: Another 2 crore 4 lakh 80 thousand doses of vaccine against the epidemic coronavirus have arrived in the country from China. According to the agreement, the cost of the vaccine will be borne jointly by the Government of Bangladesh, Asia Development Bank and UNICEF. The consignment arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday (December 26) in large numbers.

According to a statement issued by UNICEF Bangladesh, the World Health Organization (WHO) has provided more than 100 million vaccines to Bangladesh from various sources approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) from June to December this year.

Out of 100 million dose vaccines provided by UNICEF in the last 6 months, more than 50 million vaccines have been collected through Covax facility. Apart from the 100 million dose vaccines provided by UNICEF, the Bangladesh government has also brought a large number of vaccines to the country through various bilateral agreements.

The latest consignment of vaccines will accelerate the goal of bringing at least 60 percent of the country's population under the covid vaccine by June 2022. Meanwhile, 26.44 percent of the total population of Bangladesh has received the second dose of vaccine till December 26 this year.

UNICEF has been working to provide Covid-19 vaccine worldwide under the CoVAX facility since February 2021, during the global epidemic. Which is the largest and most complex supply chain in the history of vaccination in the world.

Sheldon Yate, UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh, said the most effective way to get rid of the epidemic was to ensure equal access to vaccines and increase vaccination rates around the world. It is very important to collect vaccines from the producers and distribute them to every level of Bangladesh quickly.

The mass immunization program started in the country at the beginning of February this year. Which is still ongoing. Meanwhile, the government is giving booster dose of anti-corona vaccine in the country from December 26. The booster dose program started experimentally on 19th December.
