The US brings 10 countries, including India, under major penalty

International Desk: A bill named the "Russia Sanctions Act" has been passed in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress. As a result of this bill's passage, 10 countries, including India, now face 100 percent export tariffs in the US market.

The remaining countries are China, Hungary, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Slovakia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

In a report, American news outlet AP reported that the bill was presented to MPs for a vote in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. Out of 435 representatives in the council, 421 cast their votes. Following the vote, it was shown that 262 MPs voted in favor of passing the bill, while 159 MPs voted against it.

The "Russia Sanctions Act" had previously been passed in the Senate, the upper house of the US Parliament. Following its passage in the lower house on Wednesday, the bill will now go to the White House, the office of the US President. It will become an effective law as soon as President Donald Trump signs the bill.

The main core of the "Russia Sanctions Act" bill is that after Russian forces launched a military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, the US and its allies imposed sanctions on Russian energy oil. Countries that regularly purchase oil from Russia while ignoring these sanctions are effectively strengthening Russia to prolong this war. For this reason, Washington will be able to impose a maximum 100 percent tariff on products from countries that regularly purchase large amounts of oil from Russia as punishment in the US market.

The primary proposer or author of the "Russia Sanctions Act" bill was US Senator Lindsey Graham, who was a staunch supporter of both President Trump and Ukraine.

The "Russia Sanctions Act" bill was passed in the Senate on August 7. Just 4 days later, Lindsey Graham passed away in Washington due to cardiac arrest.
