Malaysia's initiative in repatriating Myanmar citizens including Rohingyas

News Desk: Malaysia has taken diplomatic initiatives to hold talks with Myanmar regarding the repatriation of Myanmar nationals, including Rohingya refugees, residing in Malaysia. To this end, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing will be invited to visit Malaysia.

Malaysia is moving towards a diplomatic solution for the repatriation of Rohingya refugees. As part of this effort, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced plans to extend an official invitation to Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing. He issued instructions regarding this to the Home Ministry and the Cabinet two weeks ago.

Malaysia is ready to maintain friendly relations and trade with Myanmar. However, Anwar Ibrahim urged the country to fulfill its responsibility of taking back its citizens.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, "We can be friends, we can trade, we can accept Myanmar. But Myanmar must also accept its citizens."

Anwar Ibrahim also proposed a phased repatriation if it is not possible to take back the nearly 200,000 Myanmar nationals residing in Malaysia all at once.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated, "If they cannot take 200,000 people at once, let them take them back step by step. We will assist in this regard."

The Malaysian Prime Minister also mentioned that Myanmar has initially agreed to accept 5,000 Myanmar nationals. However, he emphasized ensuring their safety before the repatriation.
