News Desk: A five-day programme has been announced to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The programme was announced by the party’s Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at the BNP central office on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, a joint meeting of the BNP was held at the party’s central office. The meeting was chaired by the party’s Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. The party’s joint secretaries general, presidents-general secretaries of Dhaka North and South city units, conveners-members secretaries, and senior leaders including presidents-general secretaries and conveners of affiliated and associate organisations participated in the meeting.

At the press conference, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that on September 1 at 9 a.m., party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will pay tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late Begum Khaleda Zia, the party leader. There, he will recite Fatiha and lay wreaths.

A discussion meeting will be held on September 5 to mark the founding anniversary. As every year, the BNP will organise this discussion meeting. In addition, fish release and tree plantation programmes will be held on suitable days.

BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel will lead the fish release programme. The party’s Joint Secretary General and Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee will lead the tree plantation programme. These programmes will be implemented after determining suitable dates.

The BNP Acting Secretary General said that drafts of some more programmes have been prepared to mark the founding anniversary. After discussing with the party chairman, those will be announced later.

Highlighting the political role of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that Ziaur Rahman inspired the nation for the independence of the country. He inspired people from various classes and professions, including students, teachers, farmers and workers, to participate in the Liberation War.

He said that during a severe crisis in the country, Ziaur Rahman took charge of the state on November 7, 1975. Before that, the lawlessness, injustice, deprivation of democracy, killings and violations of people’s freedom of speech and movement that had occurred in the country were restored by him after he came to power.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman established multiparty democracy. He founded the BNP with three principles in mind—independence, protection of sovereignty and democracy. Upholding this spirit, he moved the country forward on the path of development and production.
