Bangladesh signed an energy agreement with the United States in Washington

News Desk : Bangladesh and the US have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in the energy sector. The MoU was signed at the US Department of Energy in Washington DC on Thursday (May 14).

Foreign Minister on behalf of Bangladesh. Khalilur Rahman and US Energy Minister Chris Wright signed it. 

 

This information was informed in a press release of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.

Many countries of the world, including Bangladesh, are facing increasing challenges to ensure their energy security due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This agreement is very important at this time.

The embassy said, this MoU will help strengthen Bangladesh's long-term energy security. It will help diversify energy sources based on affordability and supply chain sustainability and open up new areas of greater energy cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement will facilitate capacity building, exchange of knowledge and expertise and research in oil, gas, geothermal and bioenergy between the two countries. Along with this, it will be helpful in the import of LNG, LPG and other energy products from the US at an affordable price to Bangladesh.

At the ceremony, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh termed this MoU as another milestone in Bangladesh-US relations. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman thanked Prime Minister Tariq Rahman and US President Donald Trump for supporting this initiative.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright referred to the MoU as a historic development in Bangladesh-US relations.

Officials of the Bangladesh Embassy and senior representatives of the US Department of Energy were present at the event.
