Diplomatic Correspondent: The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Bangladesh hosted a Tea Tasting Reception today at the Rooftop Conference Hall of the Royal Park Residence Hotel, Banani, Dhaka, to mark the International Tea Day. The event brought together members of the business community, representatives from the tea industry, travel trade, and media professionals.
In his speech, Dharmapala, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, highlighted the global significance of tea, emphasizing its role not only as a popular beverage but also as a vital livelihood for millions worldwide. He underscored Sri Lanka’s commitment to sustainable tea production, innovative cultivation methods, and the promotion of specialty and wellness-oriented tea products for global markets.
“International Tea Day provides an important platform to discuss the challenges facing the tea sector, including climate change, price fluctuations, labour welfare, and sustainability. Sri Lanka is proud to be one of the world’s leading tea-producing nations, with Ceylon Tea recognized internationally for its quality, aroma, and flavor,” said the High Commissioner.
The event also celebrated the 150-year heritage of Sri Lankan tea and reaffirmed the country’s dedication to strengthening international cooperation to ensure a fair and resilient global tea industry for future generations.
Attendees had the opportunity to sample a variety of Ceylon teas, network with industry professionals, and learn more about the innovations shaping the tea sector. The High Commissioner expressed gratitude to all participants for their presence and engagement in celebrating the rich tradition and global significance of tea.
