Diplomatic Correspondent: The Russian House in Dhaka marked Russia Day 2026 with a vibrant cultural celebration featuring a grand concert, exhibitions, interactive fair, and performances by renowned Russian and Bangladeshi artists. The event brought together Russian compatriots, Bangladeshi guests, students, alumni, and friends of Russia to celebrate the national holiday of the Russian Federation and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, who highlighted the history and significance of Russia Day and emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in fostering international friendship and mutual understanding.
Addressing the gathering, Vyacheslav Sentyurin, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh, underscored the long-standing friendship between Russia and Bangladesh and stressed the vital role of cultural diplomacy in bringing people closer together.
Guests were then treated to a multimedia presentation showcasing modern Russia, highlighting the country’s natural beauty, technological achievements, cultural diversity, and contemporary development.
A major highlight of the celebration was a colorful concert performed by the Folk Song and Dance Ensemble “Alabuga” from the Yelabuga College of Culture and Arts in the Republic of Tatarstan. The ensemble captivated the audience with Russian and Tatar folk songs, traditional dances, and instrumental performances, presenting beloved pieces such as Rosiyushka, Matushka Zemlya, Katyusha, and Tatar Ile.
The concert also featured special performances by internationally acclaimed musician Razil Gabbasov, who performed traditional melodies on the kurai and other folk instruments, and Dilyara Mirovaeva, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Adding a unique Bangladesh-Russia dimension to the event, the children’s dance group “Happiness”, composed of children of Bangladeshi graduates of Soviet universities, presented traditional Bengali dances that received warm appreciation from the audience and symbolized the enduring friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
Russian compatriots residing in Bangladesh also participated in the festivities, performing the celebrated song-poem “I Gaze at the Blue Lakes” and a lively dance to the traditional Russian song “Peddlers.”
A special segment introduced guests to the Republic of Tatarstan and its capital Kazan, one of Russia’s leading cultural and educational centers.
Following the concert, attendees enjoyed a Russia Day cultural fair featuring interactive activities, exhibitions, refreshments, and cultural displays. Visitors explored two thematic exhibitions — “Multicultural Russia,” showcasing the diverse peoples and traditions of the Russian Federation, and “Pristine Russia,” highlighting the country’s breathtaking natural landscapes and regional lifestyles.
The celebration also included matryoshka painting workshops, a Russian-style photo zone, souvenir stalls, traditional refreshments, and various cultural activities, offering guests an immersive experience of Russian culture and heritage.
The event concluded in a festive atmosphere, reaffirming the strong cultural bonds and growing people-to-people connections between Russia and Bangladesh.
